Charles Schwab – 100 – 7%
Not too much info online about this – can anyone add some details?
AMD – 1,500 – 10%
They’re trying to keep it quiet…it will anything but – AMD is not dong so well lately, missing targets and being downgraded by Moody’s. Here is the full story.
Electrolux – 3,000 – 5% – all over
This one out of Europe – because of demand slowdown they’re not reaching their targets and making cuts in Q4 ‘08 and and 2009 (..and Q4 ‘08 right now and they only have a week left?)
BCBG – 125
I’m frankly surprised that I haven’t heard more about apparel and luxury companies layoffs – BCBG is one of the latest victims. All areas of the business are affected.
Republic Windows – 240 – Chicago
The company shut down and blaming B0fA (which has its own layoff headaches to deal with) for a large part of it. All in all not a good story.
Tech layoff roundup: 100K and rollin’
Not such good news as one can expect from the tech sector layoff tracker at TechCrunch – Dec especially has not been a good month so far – 18,000 people already and it’s not even half way through the month!
Let’s hope January is better.
City of SF – 400 – ?%
Ironically enough, even the people who are supposed to help laid off people find work aren’t protected from cuts – Alanda Turner is one of these people in San Francisco and now she has to find work herself. 400 people will be let go starting in Feb.
Music Industry Layoffs
This list could have a few old items (I really hope) – includes Viacom, MTV, Real, Hollywood Reporter, Pinnacle, Variety, Buzznet, Pandora, and Imeem.
If anyone has news on layoffs at these companies please send it in!
Publishing Sector: Summit Business Media, Crain Communications
Summit Business Media is cutting 21 people, about 4% of its staff – some names of cut senior staff can be found here.
Crain Communications is cutting 50 from its staff. More info to come…
